yeah pretty much...or you can MAKE a round pin with lots of polytape but no....it would be very unsafe for you AND your horse if you just let your horse loose and expect it to run in circles...

I don't have a round pen at my yard, does this mean i can't free lunge?

It is advisable that you walk them and then trot for a few minutes at least, so that you don't stretch the ligaments to quickly causing injury or lameness. This is very needed in colder weather when the horse needs extended warming up prior to working under saddle.
